Silicon Valley has the bubbling energy wherever you look around whether it is Starbucks, Warming hut, Santana Row, Shah restaurant.  People think to create new by stimulating their mind. They associate to the knowledge base, which they have access to and create hooks to connect.  Creativity is connecting things.  They debate 5 wives and 1 husband theory (asking questions like Why, What, When, Who, Where and How) by accessing to their knowledge base. They have a their eyes wide open to Observe things around them whether it’s a behavioral observation or what various other companies are creating. They experiment their ideas, concept and its OK culture that even if they fail they move on to the next idea to experiment with the same enthusiasm and energy. Networking is very common. Meeting new people is the gateway to experience and getting exposed to new ideas.

Having said all these we can deduce an Innovation environment, which facilitates one’s mind to participate, collaborate, experiment and to network. It’s an environment to agree to disagree and controlled freedom to fail.

If Innovation has to happen in India like in the west the mindset of the people has to drastically change and organizations has to redefine the culture and recreate environment and everyone in the organization has to act as a catalyst for Innovation.

  • Organization structure should be agile, flat and open.
  • People in the organization should have freedom and flexibility to participate in DOING BOTH, Sustaining and Disruptive Innovation
  • Stop thinking about Money focus on Vision – Money flows

Apple focused on CONTINOUSLY TO BUILD GREAT PRODUCTS,

Starbucks focused on ROMANCE OF THE COFFEE EXPERIENCE by enhancing the coffee experience.

  • Encourage Tolerance for failure culture.

The 21st century currency is Innovation. Organization culture does matters to bring out world class spectacular Innovation through technology, which fulfills the needs of the common man.
